You have reached Yusuf Alireza’s page on Blogger. Here you can find out about Yusuf’s career to date, his charitable work and passion for endurance events and sports.
Yusuf Alireza was born in Egypt and raised in Bahrain until the age of seventeen. His education then took him to America, where he graduated with undergraduate and master’s qualifications from the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service in Georgetown. He became one of the few students to complete the five-year course in just four years and started work for Goldman Sachs in 1992.
Yusuf’s work with Goldman Sachs over the next two decades took him across the globe, from New York to London and finally to Asia. Along the way, Yusuf made some landmark achievements; he became the first Arab to reach the management committee of the firm when he was appointed President of the Asia operations in 2010 and was also the youngest member of the committee at the time of his appointment.
In 2012, Yusuf joined Noble Group and was an integral component in turning around the financial fortunes of the supply chain management company. After encountering problems that were worse than he had anticipated and faced with market conditions as tough as they had ever been, Yusuf managed to strip the company of its wastage and attract incoming finance. He resigned from his position in June 2016 after four gratifying years.
As someone who has made a success of living and working across numerous different countries and continents, Yusuf has a deep understanding of varying cultures and is able to connect with people from a wide range of backgrounds. He is a passionate believer in focusing on factors which unite rather than divide people and is a firm supporter of the Palestinian cause.
In recent years, Yusuf has undertaken endurance events to raise money for charity. Most notably, in 2014 he completed the Bahrain half ironman and raised an outstanding $1.8m in the process thanks to the exceptional generosity of his friends, family and himself; Yusuf agreed to match every dollar donated. Yusuf is on the board of Room to Read - an organisation which aims to improve literacy skills in deprived areas. The donations collected from the half ironman were split across Room to Read and various other charities.
